Environmental Watch Group
What is BEWG
Bampton Environmental Watch Group is Bampton's Local Amenity Group, founded
in the autumn of 1989 and registered with the Civic Trust (which assisted in
drawing up BEWG’s Constitution). It has a membership of more than 100.
What is a Local Amenity Group?
Local Amenity Groups are voluntary, independently administered groups of
people who are concerned with the quality of their local built and natural
environment. There are several hundred Local Amenity Groups registered with
the Civic Trust.
What is the Civic Trust?
The Civic Trust is an independent agency, founded 40 years ago. Its aim is
to uphold high standards of environmental quality and management throughout
the UK. Its main concern is with the places where people live and work.
What are BEWG’s aims?
To foster and encourage enjoyment and understanding of the built and
natural environments.
To give support to those proposals that will be of benefit to Bampton.
To raise awareness of proposals that could be detrimental to Bampton, so
that members may take appropriate action as they individually see fit.

What does BEWG do?
It monitors planning applications affecting Bampton. It submits corporate
comments to the District Council. It also informs the membership of those
plans with controversial implications, so they may take individual action if
they wish.
It publishes regular Newsletters to all members.
It holds an AGM and three other Open Meetings (open to non-members).
Speakers are arranged for all meetings and past talks have covered such
diverse subjects as the Archaeological History of Bampton, the Planning
Control Process, Wild Life, Waste Re-cycling and Morris Dancing
How is BEWG administered?
It has an Executive Committee of four Officers and between six and ten
other members, elected annually from the membership.
Why does Bampton need BEWG?
We all live busy lives and are often not aware of proposals which could
affect our local community until it is too late. Rural communities like
Bampton are very vulnerable to inappropriate speculative developments. It was
a proposal for one such development which triggered the idea for the formation
of BEWG.
Why does BEWG need You?
Our ability to be effective lies in your concern and support.

Anyone who cares about Bampton and its local area. Please consider joining
us, we always welcome new members.
